Strange things are Happening! 10/9/12

Image
Sorry, I didn't email yesterday.  We got a call Saturday morning saying that we were having a mission football tournament in Cardiff on Monday.  So Sunday night after conference we drove down to Cardiff and stayed with some sisters overnight and then we played football (soccer) for about 4 hours yesterday.  And oh man it was fun!  They split the teams by stakes and even though my stake is the biggest area wise, we have the fewest missionaries so our team suffered and had to wear wimpy pink shirts.  But it was alright because we got 3rd out of the 4 teams and we all had a load of fun.  Sis.Benson and I were the only sisters that played, so it was good because we played the entire time.  It was misting the whole time so we got covered in mud and soaked, but it really was a blast.  And I am quite sore today, but it was worth it.   Conference was AWESOME! I loved it!  It was really funny to hear the American accents.  Ha ha!...

Miracles Happen! 10/2/12

Wow, it's been so good to hear all the fantastic things that are going on back home.  Thank you so much for sharing those experiences with me!  But man, this past week we had an incredible experience.  So I don't remember if I told you guys about a man named Shaish that owns an Indian food restaraunt?  When we first met him he actually asked us for a Book of Mormon and then we were supposed to teach him 2 transfers ago, but he forgot and Sis.Benson and I ate free Indian food anyways.  We haven't seen him again until on Saturday. Saturday started out pretty crummy.  We ran into a Jehovah's Witness man out knocking on doors too and he preached to us for like 45 min. and wouldn't let us say anything.  Anyway, he killed the spirit of the morning and we were just walking around Newcastle Emlyn trying to find people to talk to.  I prayed in my heart that someone would stop and listen and then Shaish came walking out of a shop.  He starte...

Saturday was my 6 month mark and it was a crazy day.  We went up to a big town called Lampeter to visit less-actives and do some street contacting.  I talked to a crazy drunk lady playing a recorder and a couple of guys tried to convince us that getting drunk was much more fun that being a missionary. Ha!  But we also met a really nice man from Nigeria named Vincent.  He said that he was glad to see us because there were loads of different missionaries in Nigeria that were always talking to people.  But in Wales, even though there is a church every 100 yards, you don't see many missionaries or see many religious people.  We gave him a Plan of Salvation leaflet and he gave us his address and phone number and said we are welcome anytime to come by his house and see him.  Vincent was awesome and hopefully we'll be able to see him again soon. On the drive home we stopped by a part-active family, the Taylors, but they weren't home.  We then headed...

Guess What? 9/9/12

The Lord works in mysterious ways and Sister Benson and I are both staying in Newcastle Emlyn for our 5th transfer!  By the time this one is over I will have spent 7 months with Sis.Benson.  At first we were both a bit disheartened because not a lot has been happening in our area and we would both like to see change happen.  But we had a long talk on Monday night after we got the news and we have decided that there must be something that the Lord wants the two of us to do in this area and we need to start working harder to find out what.  We have both prayed a lot and have come to the answer that we need to strengthen the ward.  We haven't had a lot of success in finding people on our own, and Preach My Gospel says that finding through members is one of the most effective ways to do the work.  So we spent time talking to the Bishop and the Relief Society pres. and the ward mission leader and they all agree that the ward is struggling and needs some...

There's so much to be seen at the Beach 9/10/12

Hello there!   We just had a beautiful sunny week and it was awesome!  Last P-Day we went to the beach and it was the best!  It was killing me not to be able to go swimming, but I survived and I figure that someday I'll be able to go to swimming in the ocean again. Picture 1: This week we had Heather from Aberystwyth come be a missionary with us for 3 days.  I thought it was going to be awkward in a threesome, but I actually loved it.  It was nice to have a new person to liven up the work and to talk to.  She was baptized back in April and is deciding if she wants to serve or not in a year.  We got a lot of work done and taught a lot of people so it was really good and she enjoyed it. We haven't seen Sarah, Brad, or Emily this week.  Man, investigators are difficult.  They're great, but not consistent.  But we did meet some really good potentials this week.  We found 2 families on the same street!  And the...

Hello, Fy Enw I Yw Chwaer LeFevre!

Hello, my name is Sister LeFevre!   Our investigator Emily is teaching us Welsh!  It is a lot fun because she gets to play teacher as well and it is something she enjoys.  So she is teaching us how to say missionary phrases and how to bear our testiomines.  The hardest part is the pronunciations because you can't sound out words the way they look.  God is spelled Dduw, but you say it they-oo .  Weird stuff, but it's fun.   It is really good for Emily because she gives us homework and we give her homework and she is able to see how it feels when someone does what you have invited them to do.  She is super intelligent for an 11 yr old, but still a little girl at heart.  We were able to talk to her about testimonies and why we need to have them and then she taught us a few new phrases in Welsh.  We gave her a BoM reading chart and she gave us homework sheets that she had typed up.  (:  Emily is doing well, but sch...

The Rain in Spain falls mainly in . . . . . . .Wales!

Howdy ho!  I like saying that to people. ha ha! It is really fun being an American sometimes because the younger people will actually stop and talk to us and think we're cool.  Most people here want to go to America someday just like most Americans dream of visiting here.  They all think that the hot desert of Arizona sounds like an awesome place to go.  They just have no concept of what dry, brown, country looks like.   S o today is a bank holiday; therefore, the library and everything else is closed = emailing from an ipad.  This is the last bank holiday until Christmas so that'll be nice to have reliable sources for a few more months.   T his past week has gone fairly well, but I'm excited for a new week to work even harder.  Zone meeting went really well and we talked a lot about ways that we can help our investigators.  We were able to get new ideas and we set a zone transfer visio...
